Which one i have to use for my Oracle database? Oracle Enterprise Linux (OEL) or Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL)

OEL and RHEL are 2 certfied operating system for oracle databases. Many times you may face with that question from your unix team: ” you want to use OEL or RHEL”

For me answer is simple.. I always prefer to use Using Oracle Enterprise Linux (OEL) because it offers several advantages, particularly in environments where Oracle software is extensively used.

So what is those advantages? Here are some of the advantages:

Devamını oku: Which one i have to use for my Oracle database? Oracle Enterprise Linux (OEL) or Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL)
  1. Optimized for Oracle Software: OEL is specifically optimized for running Oracle’s software stack, including the Oracle Database, Oracle Fusion Middleware, and Oracle Applications. This optimization can result in better performance and compatibility with Oracle products compared to other Linux distributions.
  2. Certified by Oracle: OEL is certified and supported by Oracle for running its software products. This certification ensures that Oracle applications run smoothly and reliably on OEL, and customers can receive official support from Oracle for any issues that may arise.
  3. Integration with Oracle Services: OEL integrates seamlessly with other Oracle services and products, such as Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI) and Oracle support services. This integration can simplify management and administration tasks, making it easier to deploy and maintain Oracle-based environments.
  4. Security Features: OEL includes security features tailored to enterprise environments, such as SELinux (Security-Enhanced Linux) and Oracle’s Unbreakable Enterprise Kernel (UEK). These features provide enhanced security and protection against security threats and vulnerabilities.
  5. Performance Optimization: OEL is optimized for performance, with features such as kernel optimizations, filesystem tuning, and support for high-performance hardware configurations. This optimization can result in better throughput, reduced latency, and improved overall system performance.
  6. Cost-Effectiveness: OEL is provided by Oracle under a subscription model, which can be cost-effective for organizations already invested in Oracle’s ecosystem. Additionally, customers with Oracle support contracts may receive OEL support as part of their subscription, reducing overall support costs.
  7. Community and Ecosystem: OEL benefits from a strong community of users and developers, as well as an ecosystem of third-party tools and applications that are compatible with Oracle software. This community support can be valuable for troubleshooting, sharing knowledge, and finding solutions to common challenges.

Overall, choosing OEL can provide a comprehensive and integrated platform for running Oracle software, with benefits in terms of performance, compatibility, security, support, and cost-effectiveness.
